How did a song that was never released as a single end up among the seven most popular tracks by the band? Today, we\u2019re going to take a closer look at that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDoubt\u201d is part of the massive commercial success that was the album <em>Blurryface<\/em>, and just a few years ago it didn\u2019t stand out in any way compared to the other tracks on the project. In fact, as recently as 2020, the song had fewer streams than \u201cFairly Local,\u201d \u201cThe Judge,\u201d or \u201cPolarize,\u201d placing it only 9th out of 14 tracks on the album. So what happened that caused a track which wasn\u2019t particularly popular to now overtake half of the <em>Blurryface<\/em>\u00a0singles and aim for a Top 5 position in the band\u2019s all-time rankings?<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" data-embed-height=\"740\"><p>Posts from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/twentyonepilots\/comments\/g6q4lr\/breaking_news_blurryface_is_now_the_first_and\/\">twentyonepilots<\/a><br \/>\ncommunity on Reddit<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nThe first viral TikTok videos featuring the track appeared as early as 2022, and the first major streaming spike came as a result of the livestream celebrating the 10th anniversary of <em>Vessel<\/em> in January 2023, where Tyler showed us what the demo version of the song sounded like.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I know that this is not <em>Vessel<\/em> related, but I\u2019m gonna pull up \u201cDoubt,\u201d from the next record after that. Because, as I was going through demos, I found what I think should have been the way we did \u201cDoubt,\u201d but we didn\u2019t.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This version became increasingly popular on the platform in the following months, leading to the original version of \u201cDoubt\u201d seeing a twofold increase in monthly Spotify streams in February and March 2024 (at that point, the track had already accumulated 260 million streams).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">thinking about this demo of how tyler thinks doubt should have sounded <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nCqKv2cqJU\">pic.twitter.com\/nCqKv2cqJU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 lex \u2022 ENHYPEN IS 7 (@enharikki) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/enharikki\/status\/1872666293901709467?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nSuch increase in popularity for an old, nearly 10-year-old track could not go unnoticed by the band, which Tyler confirmed himself during last year\u2019s concert in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, a couple days ago, my mom called me and she said, \u2018Hey, did you know you have a song blowing up on TikTok?\u2019 I said, \u2018Really, which one?\u2019 And she said, \u2018Well, not only is it a ten-year-old song, but it is actually the demo version of that song as well.\u2019 So I called Josh and I said, \u2018You know, I still have that demo version just chilling on a hard drive at home.\u2019 So, sometime later tonight, we\u2019d like to announce here that, here in Poland, that we are gonna officially release the demo version of \u201cDoubt\u201d tonight.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And they did it. The hype naturally declined in the following months, but since the concert in Poland, \u201cDoubt\u201d has consistently been gaining at least 10 million streams per month. The track, which a few years ago was the second least-streamed song on <em>Blurryface<\/em>, is now among the Top 15 most-streamed tracks daily by the band, surpassing hits like \u201cShy Away,\u201d \u201cJumpsuit,\u201d and \u201cLane Boy.\u201d It is also currently in the Top 20 most-streamed songs of all time for the band, and everything suggests it will easily break into the Top 15, showing just how powerful TikTok has become.
